Cluedo Cop Star

How to play Cluedo Cop Star

Cluedo Cop Star gives you the chance to be the best detective in the world. You'll be pitted against thousands of others as you investigate the recent murder of Dr Black at Tudor Mansion. One of the guests there did the deed, and you'll need your skill, talent and brainpower to explore, get the clues and find the culprit.

The Mansion

To enter a room, click on it on the map. Not all the rooms will be open at the start of your investigation. More will be unlocked as the investigation heats up and time progresses.

Exploring Rooms

Move the cursor around the room. Anything you can interact with will glow, and a description will appear when the cursor is over it.

Click on any object to interact with it. It may give you a clue, or you may be able to pick it up and place it in your Inventory.

If a red 'X' appears next to your cursor when it's over an object, you can't interact with that object yet. You could try using an object from your Inventory on it. (See below).

To move to another room, click on the map icon at the top of the game window and you'll go back to the map screen.

Casebook

Any good detective has a Casebook where information is stored. Every clue you discover will automatically be added to your Casebook. To review all your clues, click the Casebook edge on the right of the screen to open it. Use the scrollbar to look through all the clues you've found.

To close the Casebook, click on its edge, or on anywhere else in the game window.

Inventory

You can pick up and keep many objects in Tudor Mansion, and these are stored in the Inventory. To open it, move the cursor over the edge of the Inventory on the left of the screen. Move the cursor over any item to read its description.

Using Items in the Inventory

Select an item by clicking on it in the Inventory. The item will attach itself to your cursor and you can now use it on other objects in the room. For example, you might try using a key on a locked door to open it.

A red 'X' appears when you try to use an inventory item with an object which it cannot work with. For example, a screwdriver won't unlock a door.

Some objects in the room don't need to be manipulated with items from your inventory - just click on them with the hand tool. You might need to return an item you are holding to the inventory before you can do this.

Talking to Suspects

As a world-beating detective, you'll want to talk to the suspects. Simply click on a suspect to talk to them. Or if you want to ask them about a certain item, select that item from your Inventory first, and then click on the suspect. If the suspect has any information to tell, you'll be offered a choice of questions to ask.

The truly skilled investigator knows the best questions to ask. Consider which is most appropriate for that suspect and think about what you've learned so far.

Fingerprinting

Some objects must be fingerprinted before you can pick them up and store them in your Inventory. When you first click on such an object, a fingerprinting device will automatically open in a window. You now have a limited amount of time to carry out the procedure and identify the owner of the prints.

Police files can be used to match prints or partial prints, and once you have a match, you've done it! The timer will stop and you'll receive a clue or possibly an item to aid you in your hunt for the murderer.

When you have an object with a suspect's prints on it, like any razor-sharp Cop, you should waste little time in asking that suspect about the object.

Games and Puzzles

Tudor Mansion contains some clues and items which you can only get by playing various games or puzzles. If you come across a puzzle you don't think you can solve, it's likely you've missed a clue somewhere in the house. For example, how can you play the piano when you don't know which notes to hit?

Sometimes the games and puzzles are not exactly as they seem, and you, being a born Cluedo Cop Star, will know to try different approaches.

Episodes

Cluedo Cop Star's start date is 22nd September 2006. It's divided into four episodes and there will be one episode available to play at the start.

One episode will be added each week for the following three weeks. Once you reach the end of an episode, you'll have to make an Accusation (see Accusing A Suspect) and you'll progress to the next one if it's available.

You'll keep all the Inventory items and Casebook notes you've collected from previous episodes.

You must play the episodes in order, starting with episode 1, even if you join the game when later episodes are available.

Accusing a Suspect

At the end of each episode, when you've gathered and reviewed your evidence, you must report to Inspector Brown. You should tell him who you believe the killer is, what the weapon was and where the murder took place.

Your deduction should be based on the evidence you've gathered, and although you won't know whether you're correct when you make an accusation, new rooms will open and more clues will become available. Go with what you believe the evidence points to.

You have to make an accusation to proceed to the next episode.

Once you've played through all four episodes you'll be able to make your final, vital accusation. If you've got the talent and the logical mind power to be the best you could be entered into a draw for the fantastic grand prize.

Ranking and Scoring

To be the best and beat the rest, you need to earn points. You get these by finding clues and items, matching fingerprints, completing puzzles and making well-thought-out accusations at the end of each episode.

You'll earn more points by asking the suspects intelligent questions, matching fingerprints quickly and by making smart accusations each week.

As you get more points you'll be promoted up the Cluedo Cop Star ranks. You'll start as a Rookie and you could eventually find yourself a Star Detective.

The week's highest-scoring detectives will be entered into a draw for a chance to win weekly prizes. When the competition ends, the top scorers will be entered into a draw to win the grand prize. (For more information check our terms & conditions.)

Inspector Brown

Although you're the detective in charge of the Dr Black murder case, Inspector Brown is your superior in the Police Force. He will give you hints and tips on how to play throughout the game.

If you click on Inspector Brown on the bottom left of the screen, he might give you a valuable piece of information. He knows how an investigation should proceed and he's on your side, but he's no wiser as to the identity of the killer than you. It's your job as a wannabe Cluedo Cop Star winner to work things out for yourself!
